(Un)Craftivism
Sunday, 06 December 2009 15:39

From 12/12/2009 to 14/02/2010 The Craftivism project will be happening at the Arnolfini center in Bristol (UK)

Arnolfini is one of Europe's leading centers for the contemporary arts and will be hosting Craftivism exibitions and the UnCraftivism events.

My connection to this project comes through my colleague and good friend Rui Guerra. He is the mind behind the UnCraftivism concept and I helped him with what I could in making it happen.

The Craftivism organization says:
"Craftivism is a contemporary art project that responds to the resurgent interest in craft as it relates to socially-engaged art practices. Craftivism will involve fourteen projects developed by artists and collectives that work with craft-based traditions and activist practices, and who employ the tactics of craftivism (combining crafting + activism) to question, disrupt or replace the dominant modes of mass culture and consumerism." (more on this)

unCraftivism is an open event where you can present your own work and organise your own event.

unCraftivism is uncurated: your work will not be judged, or restricted by a theme, neither it has to be finalised.

unCraftivism is self-organised: you organise and promote your own event, whether a performance, a talk, a workshop, a meal, a song, a party or other as-yet-undefined events.

How to participate in 3 steps:

1. Add your event to the programme (http://www.craftivism.net/wiki/Programme).
2. Subscribe to the mailinglist and stay tuned to the latest news.
3. Invite your friends and show up in person or avatar from 12th to 13th of December.
